#20 Remember the "Why"
Hello All,
I hope you're having a fabulous week.
As I have less than 3-weeks until I start my coaching cert, I'm getting a bit anxious and nervous. There's a bit of noise on trying to figure out how to balance my new job, the coaching program, and life in general. And while I have a plan to tackle all of this time-wise, I don't have one for my emotional wellbeing.
In a call we had recently, someone just blurted out, "why are you doing this?" as in why coaching and why be part of the program and what brings you here.
That made me stop and remind myself of my "why" for coaching and everything I do. I know that this word could be too critical and judgmental, but it can be compelling in the proper context.
So, why is it that you do what you do? What drives you? What motivates you to do the things you're passionate about?
Also, I am terrible at marketing myself as a coach. I could talk about coaching for hours, but to promote myself, that's something I'm not comfortable with. I remember when someone challenged me to record myself talking about coaching, and it took 7-8 attempts to create something!
But, I do need clients for my program, and I know no one will do the work for me. No one will come and say, "here, these three people need a coach; go and work your magic". So, last week I reached out to a few people I have a close connection with within my company and told them my story. And asked them if they could help me. As I was doing that, I kept asking myself, "what is the worse that could happen?" And I also remembered that this action speaks to my value of being courageous.
We sometimes forget to align our actions with our values. We get caught in the day-to-day so much that we are on autopilot most of the time. We don't see the big picture anymore because we are so head down, solving whatever we need to solve. As a result, we forget to live authentically, and we forget to be true to ourselves.
I know you can't just live every day reminding yourself of your "why" or checking to see if you acted in line with your values. But it does create the need to pause and reflect.
I hope this serves you,
Flo
