#15 Being a Co-Active Coach
Today I would love to share a bit more about my journey to becoming a coach and the framework I decided to study and use in my sessions.
My coaching journey started with me being coached without realizing it and having also a wonderful mentor who guided me towards this path.
Then, I got the chance to do an Agile Team Coaching course, where I was introduced to coaching in general and got a feel for it. And after the course, I started thinking about how can we use some of the elements we learned in my day-to-day job. And this was the start of me positioning myself internally as a coach, working with my teams, but also doing 1:1 sessions. Check this post too, as I’ve described there my learning path.
After that, I kept looking for extra courses and I ended up choosing CTI and the co-active coaching model.
Why this model?
Because it sees people as a whole with their feelings and emotions, struggles, challenges, and not focusing only on one part of themselves. The cornerstone of it is that people are naturally resourceful, creative, and whole.
As the majority of us work in a corporation or a similar type of environment, we are very much action and KPIs-driven. Imagine my surprise when I learned to coach feelings and emotions. We tend to underestimate the importance of talking, acknowledging, and listening to our own feelings.
All the modules I went through brought something new into my life, from understanding the inner voices, naming my values to discover my leader within and life purpose.
There are a lot of tools and techniques learned through the core curriculum and the beauty of them is that you can slice them and use whatever is needed at that moment with your client.
The model provides a good foundation on general coaching and from there, you can figure out what is a niche you want to have.
Everything is designed to help the client transform in one way or another. If you do the work, if you are open to new insights, to further reflection, a shift will happen within you. And this will help you move forward and tackle any problem that might come your way.
So, I am thrilled to say that I am finally a Co-Active Coach! There's more to come in terms of my learning - in autumn, I will start my certification path and I will take on new clients as well.
If you're personally looking for a course to learn more about coaching, I wholeheartedly recommend CTI. But, do shop around and make sure you're finding the course that is better suited for you.
Hope this serves you,
Flo
